furniture: the movable articles, as tables, chairs, desks or cabinets, required for use or ornament in a house, office, or the like; fittings, apparatus, or necessary accessories.
Everyone needs space, how much and how often depends upon the individual. A cluttered room can lead to claustrophobia, reduce focus, or lessen serenity.
As a rule of thumb, furniture should only occupy approximately 25% - 30% of a room. Leaving space empty creates balance. Keep this in mind when accessorizing, letting the accessories take up only 25% - 30% of their surfaces.
For example, if accessorizing a coffee table, only choose an object that is 1/4 of the size of the table. When you leave space around an object it will increase its importance and visually enhance that piece.
